Tile Types & Material
What are my tiles made of?
Most tiles are produced by pressing, decorating and firing inorganic materials such as sand and clays.
Our tiles are made from high-quality porcelain and ceramic materials, carefully crafted to ensure durability, functionality, and long-lasting beauty. They are designed to suit a variety of indoor and outdoor spaces, combining strength with elegant finishes and textures.
What's the difference between ceramic & porcelain?
The primary difference between porcelain and ceramic tiles lies in their composition and manufacturing processes. Porcelain tiles are made from a finer and more refined clay, which is fired at higher temperatures. This results in a denser and less porous tile compared to ceramics, making porcelain more resistant to water absorption and tougher in terms of durability.
Ceramic tiles, on the other hand, are typically made from a mixture of red, brown, and white clays. They are fired at lower temperatures, which can lead to a more porous and less dense tile compared to porcelain. This difference in composition affects various aspects of the tiles, including their strength and water resistance. The benefits of using ceramic tiles is that they are more economical choice and are easier to cut for DIY projects.
What is a rectified tile?
Rectified tile is a fired tile (either ceramic or a porcelain tile) that has been mechanically cut. An extra step is taken on all sides to achieve uniformity and precision of dimensions. Having rectified edge mean the tile will have near-perfect straight edges with exact dimensions.
What is meant by shade or batch?
Batch is when one lot of tiles are from the same production run or fired in a kiln at the same time. It is important to use the same tiles from one batch and keep some leftovers for future repairs for identical match. It is not recommended to combine tiles with different batches (different production runs) as the differences will arise after laying tiles, as slight colour variation between batches will show up.
Can you do the bullnosing or miter for me?
We can coordinate and supply a wide selection of bullnose and edge pieces for all of our porcelain tile and stone products. There will be a lead time to bullnose and edge profiles (up to 1-2 weeks).
Are your tiles fire resistant or fire rated?
Ceramics are an inherently non-combustible material by composition. Produced by firing inorganic raw materials in a kiln to over 1200 degrees Celsius, ceramic tiles will not produce smoke or fumes during a fire.

Do you have tiles for lower budget projects?
We have a range of tile products to suit all budgets. We have clearance stock available from our surplus tiles and limited run tiles. Feel free to contact us to discuss your budget and needs.
Do I need to use small tiles in a small space?
Not at all! It’s a common misconception that small rooms must use small tiles. In fact, larger format tiles can make a small space feel more open and less cluttered by reducing the number of grout lines. Smaller tiles, on the other hand, can add character, texture, or a timeless look — especially for feature walls, splashbacks, or detailed designs. Ultimately, the right choice depends on the style you want to achieve, the layout of the room, and the overall effect you’re after.
