Choosing the Right Pool Tile Colour
Picking a pool colour can be an exhilarating experience as the nature of the pool mosaic changes under water and sunlight conditions. One of the biggest surprises for our clients is our much a pool tile's appearance changes once submerged. It is influenced by depth, light reflection and weather conditions. A plain pool mosaic can transform into a stunning, vibrant hue once in the water and elevating the overall pool aesthetic.

Light tones create a fresh, turquoise water effect (like Australian beach houses)
Mid-tones offer a balanced, natural blue
Darker tones to black colours produce a deep, luxurious look

What areas of a pool can you tile?
Pool suitable tiles are a long lasting and easy to maintain option that can be used throughout each of the following areas.

Waterline: Installed around the pool’s edge, waterline tiles protect against staining and chemical build-up while acting as a key design feature. For budget friendly options, pool mosaics can be just tiled above the waterline.

Coping: The edge or border of the whole pool, is often extended over or above the water line. When selecting tiles or natural stone in this space, ensure that it is a P4 or above to ensure plenty of traction underfoot.

Steps: This is a beautiful space to add a feature tile that makes the overall project pop in a design-forward way. Think bright or patterned tiles or even glow-in-the-dark mosaics to help guide swimmers at night. Tiles used on steps, ledges and surrounds must offer enhanced slip resistance for safety.

Pool Walls and Floors: Generally, the same tile is used both wall and floor but a creative pool safe decorative feature can be used as a great statement on a pool floor.

What grout should be used in a pool?
We highly recommend using Epoxy grout, as it is best for a swimming pool thanks to its resistance to mould and stains. This ensures the pool grouts will stay looking great with lower maintenance with an array of colour tones available. A cement-based grout can be used but because pool salts and chlorine will bleach coloured cement-based grout, therefore we only recommend using white.

Pool Tiles & Surrounding Materials
Much like our natural stone pavers and porcelain pavers, we select our pool tiles based on the following: highest quality, pleasing aesthetic and safety. For a cohesive design, pool tiles should complement surrounding finishes.

It’s important to find the pavers and pool coping to complete your outdoor swimming pool or spa area. Popular pairings with the pool mosaics include: travertine or limestone pavers, concrete-look porcelain pavers and bullnosing. Light colours are often a popular choice for pool surroundings whereas a darker selection gives more of a luxurious look.

Selecting the perfect pool tiles is about more than colour and style - it’s about choosing materials that perform, last and elevate your outdoor space. Whether you’re drawn to the refined tones of Onix, the natural warmth of Leyla, or the technical excellence of Ezarri, FINN Tile offers premium pool tile solutions designed for Australian pools.
